I am Jo Ann von Haff and come all the way from Angola, a Portuguese-speaking country in Southern Africa. My family is made of German, Portuguese, Spanish and Namibian travellers, it is not much of a surprise to understand why I grew up as a nomad! It was my heritage. My first steps and words "happened" in Cuba, I grew up between Angola and Portugal, lived in South Africa before coming to France. I was fluent in Spanish, French and Portuguese (all at the same time) by the age of three.
I am a (young) writer (and a poet when it happens!). I've been writing since I am sixteen.
My first novel Gazelle (now unavailable) was published in 2006. Soon to come are my second and third novels, Gosh! I married my husband! and Daughter of the Wind. I finished editing my fourth novel, In the shadow of the baobab and I rewrote my fifth and sixth novels in English, The Thirteenth Concubine and The Healer Queen.
When I write, I love to talk about « secrets » and « traumas » as I have a great passion about victimology and traumatology, as well as « melting pots » !
I have been writing short stories in English even before I decided to write them in French which I consider my writing and heart language. Since 2004, I reconnected with poetry and have been writing poems in English ever since. It was a way to tell my feelings while keeping being modest.
